Hello world. I’m back from my vacation and still very much jet-lagged. I’m still trying to catch up, but I wanted to quickly say a few words. There were some strong comments about my creationist/homophobia posts, and people were offended. Some thoughts:
- I definitely did not mean to offend or hurt anyone.
- There’s a fine line between being thought-provoking and provocative. I try for the former but may unintentionally end up at the latter. Working on getting better at that.
- I choose analogies because I believe they help convey my ideas. I realize two of the ones I’ve used here (race and sexual orientation) will be sensitive for some people. It doesn’t mean I don’t use these analogies. But I will exercise caution.
- This passage has been a part of my comments policy since my first post:
“Try to write precisely and clearly. For most people, this alone will take care of the “be nice” command. That said, it is one of the hardest things
on Earth to do and I will fail repeatedly. I trust you to call me out when needed.”
So while I still stand by what I wrote, I acknowledge my writing needs to be tightened and clarified. I appreciate the help in getting there.
That’s it for now. Regularly scheduled programming to resume shortly.
You need to hone your eggshell-walking skills. ; )
You mean “stand by the intent of what you wanted to convey”? “Stand by what I wrote” could mean something different to people who were offended. Not sure. Nice post.
